Boongala Gardens and Rainforest

Boongala Gardens and Rainforest is a remarkable little corner of the world. Developed by Mal and Jenny Johnston over many years, they have opened their gardens to the public to educate them on Australian native plants.

Boongala does a beautiful job of celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture by integrating the local indigenous names of animals and sharing insights into our many beautiful native trees and flowers.

With NAIDOC week this week, it’s a great time to celebrate what local people in our community are doing to share about the Indigenous culture.

Thanks Mal and Jenny for showing me the wonders of your gardens.

The gardens open twice a year to the public, during Autumn and Spring and visitors can also join their Guided Rainforest and Bush Tucker Tour.
