$96,416 Committed to fix Berowra cycleway Safety

New funding committed by the Australian Government will the improvement of the cycleway out of Yallambee Road.

Raised islands will be installed with an additional Giveway or Stop sign to improve conditions in the area and prevent future right-turn cycle crashes out of Yallambee Road.

Federal Member for Berowra Julian Leeser MP said the funding will deliver crucial road safety improvements to Berowra.

“This funding will provide an important life-saving upgrade works to keep the Berowra community, particularly cyclists safe on our roads,” Mr Leeser said.

“A total of $96,416 will be invested for the design, development and installation of safeguards at this dangerous section of Yallambee Road in Berowra to help prevent near misses and serious injuries occurring on the road.”

“The most important thing we can do for our community is ensure we all get home safely as currently around 1,200 people die and 40,000 are seriously injured on our roads each year.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said one life lost on Australian roads is one too many.

The Australian Government has committed $3 billion for the nationwide Road Safety Program to keep

 communities safe, while securing the economic recovery.

The funding supports the roll-out of life-saving safety works on rural and regional roads to reduce the number of accidents on Australian roads.

The Road Safety Program is one of a number of Australian Government road safety initiatives including the Black Spot Program, Targeted Road Safety Works initiative and Road Safety Innovation Fund.
