One of the most popular tennis associations in northwest Sydney is set for a significant upgrade thanks to a major funding grant from the Federal Government.
Located in Pennant Hills, the Eastwood-Thornleigh District Tennis Association caters for more than 1500 players every single week.
The Federal Liberal Member for Berowra Julian Leeser announced this week that ETDTA would benefit from a $184,000 community sport infrastructure grant.
“Sport plays a significant role in our community,” Mr Leeser said.
“This grant is good news for the association who will save money and be able to do more with their facilities and for our local tennis players who will be able to maintain affordable membership fees. But it is also good for the environment with energy saving lights being used, and it is good for the future of tennis.”
ETDTA president Mary Baker said the funding would primarily go towards the installation of state-of-the-art LED lights as well as an automatic locking system to improve court access.
“The funding means greater longevity for the club,” she said.
“With new lights more players can play. The lights will be better to play under, more economical and better for the environment.
“It costs us $3,500 to change one light globe at the moment with the halogen lights. The LED lights give a much broader light and are a lot cheaper. The automatic locking system will allow much easier access for all the community, not just the club members.”
