Julian believes a successful migration program is one of the pillars of a successful Australia.
Julian is a champion of the importance of skilled migration to Australian businesses, livelihoods and to the vibrancy of Australian society and he has a long history of advocating for improving Australia’s skilled migration system.
Julian is the Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Migration, which presented its final report on its inquiry into Australia’s skilled migration program in August 2021. The report recommended several measures aimed at streamlining the skilled migration system and moving towards a whole-of-government approach to address skill shortages for post-pandemic recovery. The report also recommended clearer pathways to permanent residency and measures to enable the best and brightest international students to stay in Australia.
Previously Julian led an important review of the Working Holiday Maker Visa (often known as the backpacker visa) which is vital for our tourism, agriculture, hospitality and healthcare sectors.
Julian believes Australia is the most successful multicultural society on earth. Even before his election to Parliament Julian has had a long history of working with multicultural and multifaith communities especially those in Berowra like the Chinese, Indian, Sri Lankan, Korean, Lebanese and Italian communities as well as Christian, Bahai, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, Hindu and Sikh faith communities.
