Tennis players can now play tennis late into the night and early in the morning, with the installation of new lights and a new electronic court entry system now complete at the tennis courts in Pennant Hills Park.

In March 2019, Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser MP announced a $184,000 Community Sport Infrastructure grant for the Eastwood-Thornleigh District Tennis Association (ETDTA) to install the new lighting and entry system.

“This upgrade will make the Eastwood-Thornleigh District Tennis Association’s tennis courts a more sought after location for regional Tennis Tournaments, lifting the profile and investing in the future of tennis in our area,” said Julian Leeser MP.

The new lights and automated online booking system, which open the courts up to be played on outside of hours, will enable more people in our community to play tennis early in the morning and late into the night.

“The lights light up the courts like daylight. If you haven’t played tennis at night for years because you couldn’t see the lines properly at night, then give it another go because you’re in for a pleasant surprise, it’s just like daylight with the new LED lights,” said Mary Baker, President of ETDTA.

“The lights are environmentally friendly and use much less power which will save the Association money, making the courts more sustainable and enabling them to remain open for many more generations.”

The installation of the lights and electronic court entry system has been managed by the ETDTA’s very own Grounds and Maintenance Manager, Wayne Hackett, whose done a fabulous job, supported by a team of volunteers at the Association.

The Eastwood-Thornleigh District Tennis Association currently serves about 1,500 players every week, runs competitions, social play as well as tournaments, including one annually in November wherein over 200 schools participate. The courts are serving people aged 3 to over 80.
