Cheltenham Girls High School will soon have a new shade structure over Pinkies Café to provide students with a covered place to sit during their breaks, thanks to a Local School Community Fund grant.
The $16,500 Federal Government grant will go a long way towards enabling the $27,650 project to go ahead.
Pinkies Cafe is used by students during breaks and is often used by the girls to raise funds for charitable groups. The shade will enable greater hours of use, protecting the students from both the sun and the heat.
“This funding will be well used, providing shade to replace the currently inadequate tattered umbrellas and will serve to further enhance the Pinkies Café as an attractive place for students to spend their time during breaks,” said Julian Leeser MP.
“This shade is a very welcome addition to our beloved Pinkies Café. In summer, the heat at the café becomes unbearable, so this will enable the space to be better utilised by the girls throughout the entire school year,” said Suellen Lawrence, Cheltenham Girls High School Principal.
Extensive consultation with students and the P&C indicated that there are currently insufficient of shaded areas around the school and Pinkies was identified as the most suitable first area to receive shade.
