Federal Member for Berowra Julian Leeser MP has presented the Wisemans Ferry Men’s Shed with a $10,000 Stronger Communities grant for the purchase of a new community bus.

In addition to facilitating transport to and from the Men’s Shed, Mr Leeser said the bus would benefit the entire Wisemans Ferry community.

“Wisemans Ferry is one of the most scenic and stunning parts of my electorate, but its isolation and lack of public transport presents challenges for its elderly residents,” Mr Leeser said.

“This community bus will help residents get to the shops, medical appointments and social outings like the Men’s Shed. It’s a proactive way of keeping Wisemans Ferry active.”

Wisemans Ferry Men’s Shed President Adrian Acheson thanked Mr Leeser for the $10,000 contribution, explaining how the bus will improve residents’ ability to live independently.

“A large portion of our community is ageing and we have fairly wide distances between homes and businesses. The bus will allow elderly and disabled residents to get out and about, while being able to live in their own homes longer,” Mr Acheson said.

The Wisemans Ferry Men’s Shed is currently in the process of procuring an appropriate bus and Mr Leeser looks forward to returning for a ride with residents once acquired.

The $10,000 grant was provided by Mr Leeser as part of the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program, which allocates $150,000 to each electorate for projects that create vibrant and viable communities.
