Residents of the Berowra electorate have received a major road safety boost with the Australian Government announcing it will invest $2,016,000 toward two projects under the 2021–22 Black Spot Program.

Federal Member for Berowra Julian Leeser said community input was critical to identifying key black spots in the electorate.

“Road crashes place major emotional and economic strains on all affected communities but particularly the families and friends of the victims,” Mr Leeser said.

“I am pleased to see that Cattai Ridge Road west of Old Northern Road at Glenorie will be improved through a curved shoulder and the installation of a flexible barrier on the roadside, as well as Oakes Road/Murray Farm Rd in Carlingford will undergo improvement of the intersection and/or pedestrian crossing under the 2021–22 funding round.

“Motorists living within and visiting Berowra will be pleased to know that two dangerous blackspots in the electorate will be fixed with funding from the program. More than $19.7 million has been allocated to fixing roads through the Roads to Recovery and Blackspots programs in Berowra since 2019.

“None of these projects would be delivered without the community’s vital input and I encourage all residents and motorists in the region to nominate projects for future funding rounds.”

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne thanked Mr Leeser and the Federal Government for the funding injection, which will help to make Cattai Ridge Road safer for all road users.

“This is fantastic news for residents, especially those who live along Cattai Ridge Road,” Mayor Byrne said.

“We’ve been campaigning for safety improvements to be made on this stretch of road, and this funding boost will help us do just that, including the installation of guardposts, flexible barriers and signage, as well as pavement widening works,” Mayor Byrne added.

The Australian Government has committed a record $1.1 billion to the Black Spot Program from 2013–14 to 2023–24 to improve road safety across the nation.
