Berowra Public School this week celebrated 125 years. There are not many schools that could boast 125 years of investing in the education of Australian students. As the first school in Berowra, it was started in Mary Wall’s house, with just 14 students in 1894.
125 years later, the school has over 400 students. The day was celebrated with a whole school assembly with parents and former students, teachers and principals. Special guests included Julian Leeser MP, former student Councillor Nathan Tilbury, former teachers Mrs Helen Vincent and Mrs Shirley Collins and former Principal Mr Lester Marquet. They reminisced about the school’s history and encouraged students in their pursuit of education.
The talented school choirs, string ensemble, recorder players, dance group and band entertained fellow students and guests for the morning. The time capsule from 1994 was also opened and a new time capsule stocked with messages and items for students to open in 2044.

“Whilst the day was about celebrating and sharing the rich history that Berowra Public School boasts, it is also about recognising what remains constant. For over 125 years the students, staff and community have strived for educational excellence and have demonstrated strong belief that education can make a difference,” Principal Mrs Mamo.
“Congratulations to Berowra Public School on 125 years of outstanding teaching and learning in our community. The school well and truly lives up to the model of service before self and I was honoured to be present to say a few words and be a part of the festivities,” said Julian Leeser MP.
